Model Town Society Lahore

Model Town Society (MTS) is one of the most well-planned and prestigious residential areas in Lahore, Pakistan. It was established in 1921 by Dewan Khem Chand, with the idea of creating a garden-town style neighborhood. It’s governed by the Model Town Cooperative Housing Society

A Quick History:

  • Founded in: 1921

  • Founder: Dewan Khem Chand, an Indian civil servant and visionary.

  • Purpose: He wanted to build a “garden town” – a peaceful, green residential community away from the noise and pollution of the city.

British-Era Planning:

Model Town was designed during the British colonial period, which is why it features wide roads, spacious parks, and a well-planned block system — all influenced by British-style urban planning.

After Pakistan’s Independence (1947):

When Pakistan was created, most of the original Hindu residents migrated to India, and the properties were allotted to new Muslim families who moved to Pakistan during the Partition. Since then, Model Town has grown into one of Lahore’s most prestigious and peaceful residential areas.
